Rembrandt Donuts
Location: Valentinská 1061/6, Prague 1 – Old Town
Hours: 7:00-7:00 weekdays
Price Range: 25-100 Kč
Website: www.rembrandtdonuts.cz
Bakeries are in abundance in Prague but it’s hard to come by an authentic Czech pastry shop sans tourists and long lines. Rembrandt is the safe haven of bakeries, yet somehow maintains staggeringly low prices for unbelievably delicious treats.
While its interior resembles a walk-in closet, the smell wafting out of its doorway allows you to forget the hotbox you’re bound to walk into. The left counter is lined with pastries of all different types, ranging from strudel to chocolate-covered croissants, but the mysterious delectables hold the most allure. Seeing as the signage is entirely in Czech, some things are left to your imagination. But “jablečný koláč smáslovou drobenkos” and the “košiček s rybízim a jogurtem” are more than worth the risk. All pastries are marked under 45 Kč, so walking away with just one quickly becomes the hardest feat.
If sweets aren’t what you’re in the market for, this tiny shop also offers sandwiches and bagels priced at 50 Kč or less. Best of all, Rembrandt is only two minutes away from the Staroměstská metro stop.
So, the next time your sweet tooth is aching, satiate that sugar-deprived soul of yours with a quick stop at Rembrandt.
