Absintherie
Location: Náměstí Franze Kafky 14/8, Prague 1 – Old Town

Best Time to Go: Before, After and During class
If a giant green ice cream cone isn’t welcoming enough, the Absintherie’s absinthe slushies are sure to freeze a smile on your face. Seeing as it’s perfectly located on the corner of campus, you can’t miss this famed student hangout. Before class, during and especially after, the Asbintherie has beverages for all times of the day. Ranging from absinthe coffee to strawberry absinthe mojitos, you’ll never leave thirsty...or sober, for that matter.
As you step into the small shop, bottles upon bottles of absinthe line the right wall. You can ogle at the neon colors, petrified beetles and mad scientist contraptions that aid in your absinthe experience. Prices vary depending on size, potency and maturity, but the notorious bottle with the beetle will always hold the highest curiosity.
The Absintherie is more than a souvenir shop for absinthe-starved Americans, though. It serves as your local drug supplier as well. Getting tight with the bartenders is essential, but once you do, drugs will flow over the counter along with your flaming B52s. And after the Absintherie, B52s will no longer be just a faded band from the ’80s, but a three-layer shot of absinthe, Kahlua and Irish cream that is lit on fire before you take it. Be sure to pull out your straw before it burns, though – plastic never tastes good once melted.
Prices at the Absintherie range from decent to expensive, but that Red Bull/absinthe after Modern Dissent can never be replaced once you’re back in the states. And once Prague’s winter chill ebbs, the ice cream arrives and you’ll finally understand why it was worth the frigid wait. Be sure to check out the graffiti lining the bathroom walls, you might just spy a message written by someone you know.
