Best Time to Go: Before or after class
A pub extraordinaire with 30 beers on tap, the Beer Museum guarantees you’ll never go thirsty. Located conveniently on Dlouhá and only 10 minutes from campus, it’s the perfect place to stop for a quick beer before and after class.
The pub beckons you in with a modest sign hanging out front and a single hand-scrawled reminder that 30 different types of beer await inside. It draws a healthy mixture of locals, tourists and students such as ourselves to indulge in numerous high-proof pivos. The homey decor and wood-paneled walls give off a comforting aura that is ripe for slugging brews with a bunch of your friends.
The wait staff all speak English, and come to your table almost immediately after you sit down. They’re always ready with suggestions for favorite beers – which is good, because the Bible-like menu can seem a bit daunting at first. After much perusal and comparisons of percentages, the highest alcohol content level on the menu is usually the crowd favorite.
The “Raptor” was recommended to me on my first visit, a 16° brew selling for 68 Kč. Don’t be deterred by the price, this Indian Pale Ale makes up for it with its poignant taste and leading alcohol content. Another popular beer is the “d’este,” with its deep golden complexion and hint of vanilla flavor. It has a 15° alcohol content, and is more than worth the 52 Kč price.
With so many beers to choose from, you can make it a personal mission to try them all. The Beer Museum is an ideal pre-game location, as it’s right down the street from Roxy nightclub. Or more simply, it can be that chill pub to wile away the afternoon. So get ready to sit back and relax as “Hotel California” pumps through the speakers and delicious beers pour down your gullet.
Average Prices: 30 – 70 Kč, depending on the size
