Bakeshop is the popular girl we hate to love. She is pristinely kept, appeals to the healthy and hungry, but never compromises her sense of style. Sadly, Bakeshop might induce homesickness of a Village far, far away. But you’ll go anyway.
“We cultivate our own yeast. We call her Bertha,” boasts the Bakeshop website. If that mantra does not say everything, perhaps one should take a gander at the caramelized sourdough crust and rethink that diet. Walnut. Rosemary Olive Oil. Cherry Pecan Golden Raisin. All are sourdough types await your consumption. If, by some miracle, you manage to resist, the hummus or tandoori wrap prevail for a time.
Once we get to the desserts, we fear all caloric care is lost. The “Sweets ’N Stuff” category is a façade. There is no ‘stuff’ here, but treasure of a chocolate cheesecake kind. The “World’s Best Carrot Cake” rests beside mascarpone everything. Apricot almond tarts make a sinful appearance. Suddenly, macaroons and meringues make their way onto our plates as well.
If it’s not obvious, Bakeshop provides a doubtful dénouement for any hope of slim waistlines. This is not due to a lack of healthy options, but rather, a significant amount of better alternatives. Really, we are not the ones at fault. How many places herald walnut and blue cheese quiche beside raspberry, white chocolate pie?
Again, Bakeshop is that popular girl we hate to love. She capitalizes on our weaknesses, but we avidly seek her out in spite.
What to order:
1. Roasted Eggplant Soup (Small 65 Kč, Large 110 Kč)
2. Black Olive Sourdough (Roll 35 Kč, Half 45 Kč, Full 80 Kč)
3. Star Chocolate Pie (Slice 95 Kč)
